About The Foundation in Science and Arts is a 1-year full time comprehensive programme designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and learning essential for the smooth transition to undertake an undergraduate degree at local and overseas universities. The programme offers diverse modules in disciplines such as technical science, management, finances, mass communication and visual arts. By the end of the programme, students will have a clearer direction and better understanding of their fields of interest. The modules offered will enhance students’ academic knowledge, expose students to latest developments in the respective areas of studies and foster their critical thinking skills.

BSc (Honours) Biomedical Sciences

About The BSc (Honours) Biomedical Sciences 2+1 programme offered explores the human body’s function in health and disease. It equips you with specialist knowledge about how diseases occur, and how researchers and clinicians develop new treatments. It covers a diverse range of subjects relating to medicine, including the study of key areas such as biochemistry, genetics, physiology, microbiology, immunology and pharmacology. The programme encompasses two academic years at NUMed, which mirrors what is being studied at Newcastle University, UK, and the final academic year in the UK, with research-led teaching and an intensive research project in one of the highly regarded research institutes at the Newcastle University Medical School.

Foundation in Biological and Biomedical Sciences

About This 12-month programme is intended to serve as a comprehensive Foundation for Malaysian students intending to study medicine, biological or biomedical sciences or science at the undergraduate level in Malaysia at NUMed. Progression on to programmes at NUMed Malaysia Students who successfully complete the Foundation in Biological and Biomedical Sciences to the required level, will be offered a place on either our MBBS programme (subject to interview) or our 2 + 1 BSc (Honours) Biomedical Sciences programme. To qualify for admission to the MBBS programme at NUMed Malaysia you must achieve an overall average grade of 75% with 70% in English for Academic Purposes, 75% in Biology 1, Biology 2 and Chemistry and 70% in Foundation Medical Studies. To qualify for admission to the 2+1 BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences programme offered at NUMed Malaysia you must achieve an overall average grade of 65% with 65% in English for Academic Purposes and 70% in Biology 1 and 2 and 55% in Chemistry. Progression on to programmes at Newcastle University, UK Students who successfully complete the Foundation in Biological and Biomedical Sciences to the required level will be able to apply for a place on a wide variety of programmes at Newcastle University, UK, in both the Faculty of Medical Sciences – including Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Pharmacy (MPharm), Biomedical Sciences (BSc or MSci), Biochemistry (BSc or MSci), Biomedical Genetics (BSc or MSci), Physiological Sciences (BSc), Pharmacology (BSc), Sports and Exercise (BSc), Food and Human Nutrition (BSc), Psychology (BSc) – and the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering – including Biology (BSc), Animal Science (BSc), Environmental Science (BSc), Agriculture (BSc), Agri-Business Management (BSc), Marine Biology (BSc), Chemistry (BSc and MChem) and Speech and Language Science (BSc).
